   The temperature readings are from internal electronics. Most clocks like that will give internal temps; some have the added feature of external (usually wireless) sensors for outside temps.

   The "weather forecasts" are just based on the local barometric pressure and aren't particularly accurate. For instance, rising pressure = sunny, but that could also indicate a front moving through and some rain, or falling pressure = rain, but that could mean the front is passed and the skies are clearing.

   Umm — transmit? They are designed to receive the US atomic clock broadcasts on shortwave (5, 10, 15, and 20 MHz from Ft. Collins, CO or Hawaii) and interpret the signals to reprogram the clock to the correct time once a day (usually 1 to 4 AM local time).

   You may find that the one with weather also has a relative humidity sensor. If that would be useful where you live, then it might be a reason to choose it over the other.

   The first answer is good. But have you tried replacing the batteries? The clock might monitor the state of the batteries even though it's plugged into the mains. Battery back-up doesn't work very well if the batteries are dead.

   I have an Oregon Scientific WMR-100, and I think it’s great! Kyle seems to have a lot of unspecified troubles with his Oregon Scientific (Don’t know the model), but I’ve never had an issue with mine, other than needing to replace the batteries once a year. I like it because it’s wireless. Some people have complained that my temperature readings are too high, but when compared to other Wunderground stations in the area (3 now, all within 1/2 mile) my temp is almost always within +/- 2 degrees, which is not an unreasonable disparity.Try looking online? That’s probably where you’ll find your best deals.

    Good job on the info, Mark. Thanks, it’s timely for sure. I started with an Oregon Scientific WMR968, a Christmas gift from Pam some years ago. It worked well until battery/solar panel problems developed, due to inadequate sealing properties of the cases. Moisture problems inside the box, corrosion of battery terminals, etc. The solar panel finally developed cracks in the surface, rendering it inoperative.I replaced it with a Davis Vantage Pro2 wireless unit a couple of years ago. It works well and seems accurate, no problems with the console. The remote Anemometer station went out recently. Inspection found a loose battery contact in the circuit board, a cold solder joint. I purchased a spare unit, installed it and sent the original to Davis for repairs. It’s just out of warranty, of course!The FD uses Davis at the main station in Silverton, an old model but still functional. I’m used to the controls and the display, which prompted me to invest in the Davis unit at home. Small glitches aside, I like the unit and would recommend it to others.
